DEREK TEDDER
Director of News, Clear Cut Films
Derek has gained extensive experience operating at a senior and managerial level within the national broadcast media and as the Director of News for Clear Cut Films. For over two decades he has been an integral part of the ‘Media Machine’ in this country and has a thorough understanding of how it works.
He has spent most of his career working as a news correspondent and presenter on Sky News, ITV and the BBC. As an HSE approved commercial media diver, he has also headed up BSkyB's underwater film unit.
In addition, Derek has a proven track record in developing and delivering successful internal and external communication strategies for the company’s many prestigious and high profile clients. He has also provided ‘realistic’ media training, personal broadcast coaching and post media crisis evaluation and review since 1995 when this media consultancy was first established.
As a seasoned broadcaster, he has covered most of the recent high profile domestic stories including the 7th July London bombings. On that day he coordinated the Sky News coverage of the main press conference at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in Westminster.
Derek is trained to operate in hostile environments including war zones. Over the years, this specialist training and experience has led him to many of the world's hotspots. Following the September 11th terrorist attack on the United States, he was sent to Afghanistan to cover the terrorist threat facing British troops working out of Kabul.
During the conflict in Kosovo, Derek reported from inside the country and on board British and French warships in the Adriatic Sea. After he returned to the UK, he was appointed Executive Producer on an ITV documentary about the war.
As a professional media diver, Derek manages the international underwater film unit at Clear Cut Films and specialises in covering stories beneath the surface.
Among them, he has reported on the plight of the endangered manatee and dived with them between Florida and Belize. He and his team also joined a group of recreation divers who discovered a stash of vintage champagne in the hold of a fifty year old shipwreck in the middle of the English Channel.
As part of his battlefield training, Derek is qualified in medical trauma care and emergency hyperbaric medicine. He is registered with the Facility of Pre-Hospital Care at the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh.
